Traditional scrollwork designs from the Sicilian
region.
Sicily is said to be the most conquered island in the world and
dozen of civilizations have left their mark on its art developing a
Mediterranean culture that begun upon the arrival of the Roman
Empire in Sicily which brought Etruscan influence to the Sicilian
ceramic art.
Our new “Siciliana” collection feature traditional scrollwork
designs are typical of the Sicilian region located at the extreme
south of Italy.
The Sicilian ceramic master's
craft is deeply rooted in time, a timeless art that has flourished
for centuries in this island.
FLORENTIA Collection
Our new Florentia Collection, feature three items which are
reproductions of vessels commonly used in the renaissance era, by
pharmacists to preserve their concoction, used at the time to cure
people, as they were the only available medicine.
The script on the
canister (Item # F20-FLT) says: “Semi di Cedri” which translates to:
“Cedar Seeds”
Renaissance medical use:
The resulting tea of stepped leaves of the red cedar were used to
relieve persistent coughing or a tickling in the throat. It was
also believed to produce sedative effects that were especially
useful for calming a hyperactive person. Women drank the red cedar
tea to speed delivery during childbirth.
More recently the Indian tribes Cheyenne, and Sioux, made a tea from
red cedar boughs, branches, and fleshy cones, which they drank for
colds, fevers, tonsillitis, and pneumonia.
The script on the flat
brocca/pitcher (Item # F25-FLT) says: “Sy. Di Fiori di Pesco” which
translates to: “Syrup of peaches flowers”.
Mostly used for cosmetic purposes. Boiled Peaches flowers had
soothing astringent properties. Used to cure greasy, spotty skin,
eczema, psoriasis, rashes, insect bites, scrapes and grazes.
Crushed peaches flowers work well when applied to spots, insect
bites and rashes.
In the culinary field, Peaches flowers used to be chopped and added
to salads. |
MAJOLICA FRUTTA TOSCANA Collection

MAJOLICA VALDARNO Collection
Historical majolica urns from the Tuscan “Valdarno” valley located
just 20 miles south of Florence.
The Valdarno area takes its name from the Arno river that runs
through this valley and where natural of clay is in abundance,
primarily due to the recurrent flooding of the Arno river.
The “Valdarno” is very rich in historical facts and
folkloristic-cultural traditions but what makes this valley an
interesting tourist destination is the geographic position is
perfect for excursions in the Chianti area, being located only a few
miles Florence and Siena and close to the hills of Chianti in the
splendid, Tuscan countryside.

Collection
Royal elegance sparkles from these original hand-painted majolica
items.
The rich arabesque scrollwork is reproduced from Renaissance-era
ornaments that once decorated walls and ceilings throughout Italy.
This chic design is “antiqued” using Artistica’s exclusive patina,
carefully hand applied after final firing to achieve the distinctive
and durable "Old World" look.
